Her original research has been published in top-tier medical journals such as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, European Heart Journal, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Lancet Public Health and Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Notable work includes her genetic research on the sodium-glucose transporter SGLT1, which spurred two clinical trials of the SGLT1/SGLT2 inhibitor Sotagliflozin, both published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2021 and showing dramatic reduction of death and heart failure in those receiving the drug versus placebo. She was also the Principal Investigator of the Study of Lifestyle and Covid-19 Risk in Physicians and Nurses, collaborating with researchers from Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Cedars-Sinai.

Her expertise has been featured in over 600 news articles by media outlets worldwide, including Forbes, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, Time, The Today Show, NPR, CNN, the New York Times and the BBC, and she has been an invited speaker at forums as diverse as the Karolinska Institute, the Danish Parliament, and the National Institutes of Health.
